This event is open to artists 18 years old and older.
Artists will enter under either Juried or Emerging division depending on their credentials.
A maximum of 60 artists will be accepted. The Paint the Beach Registration committee will
vet all artists for division assignment.
Juried Division: 25 artists max -artists meeting any one of the following criteria:
- Have won first, second or third in any national plein air competition
- Are currently represented by a commercial gallery or a juried co-op gallery
- Have been juried into national exhibits in the past three years
DEADLINE for applying to Paint the Beach is September 30, 2017.
Registration fee must be paid online by credit card or PayPal and is NON-REFUNDABLE.
Artists will be notified by email on receipt of registration.
Upon notification of registration receipt, artists should Email a one page biography for the artist’s book to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
GUIDELINES FOR ARTWORK AND FRAMING
Any work not within these guidelines will be disqualified from the exhibition.
- All work must be created solely by the artist, and completely “from life”, without any photographic assistance,
within San Carlos Island, Estero Island or Lovers Key State Park during the hours and dates of
Paint the Beach on properly stamped WHITE or LIGHTLY TONED ground (paper or canvas).
All work in main competition and Quick Draw must be 2-D painting or drawing media – wired and framed for sale.
Please wire your work securely. No saw tooth hangers.
Any work not presented in a professional manner will not be included in the exhibition.
Wires should measure 3” from top and wire ends be taped. The Paint the Beach committee recommends against fragile gold leaf frames.
All work must be for sale. Artist receives 60% of the sale price (A 40% commission will be charged).
Dimension Requirements – Size limit – no larger than 30” (including frame) on any side. Frames must not exceed 4 inches in width.
Unframed gallery wrap canvases must be at least 1” in depth and the edges must be painted.
Unframed canvases cannot have wet paint as it is too difficult to handle and will not be accepted for judging.
Oils must be framed.
Work on paper must be framed and matted with glass/plexi glass.
Committee reserves the right to verify stamped ground.
DELIVERY OF ARTWORK
- Each artist is expected to complete the waiver and turn
in artwork to the registrar.
- Each artist may deliver up to 2 finished paintings for the judging and sale. Paintings must be for sale and priced at minimum of $100.
Additional paintings completed on stamped ground on location during the festival painting days can replace
those sold but will not be judged and must be stored by artist.
Art is due Friday November 10 from 9a.m.-11:30 at the Festival Tent at Santini Plaza.
Display tags will be provided for each of your pieces.
For check-in, paintings must have: your name, title and price of the painting written on the back of the painting.
Please include a local contact number in case sold paintings need to be replaced.
- Commission split will be Artist 60%/event 40%
FMBAA will handle all sales.
Artists will receive payment for work sold, and/or awards checks, within 30 days following the event.
