JUROR’S
STATEMENT I am
always honored to be asked to jury a show. It is an exciting and difficult task.
We, as artists, put our hearts into our work. I know first hand the elation of
acceptance and the feelings that come with non-acceptance. What
do I look for?
Number one is content. Does
the artist have more to say than just a depiction of the way things are? Number
two is design…does the artist use the elements of art to obtain a unified whole?
What visual problems did the artist set for themselves and how successful were
they in solving their own problem? Last comes technique…Was the drawing and
paint handling competent, skillful and appropriate to their chosen media? The
award winners did a great job for all of the above and, in
most cases went beyond. It is a beautiful show.
